Push ups can become a little boring after a while so having some variations is a good way to keep it fresh and potentially develop other traits within the shoulder that are useful for shoulder health and performance. Going onto one arm and opening up the chest significantly increases the stability demands on the shoulder, scapula and abdominals which increases the metabolic demand of the exercise and makes it a good upper body exercise in HIIT or Tabata circuits
