Following on from the Y-Raise Hold, the Y-Raise starts to put movement through the shoulder joint whilst trying to keep the mid-back stiff and stable. This increases the dynamic load through the posterior shoulder muscles and rotator cuff and increases the stability demands of the mid-back muscles. Added to that the trapezius muscle is working hard to maintain scapula stability and control.
